According to this version, it is the fruit of a collaboration between fellow classics of Brazilian popular music and literature, Dorvel Caimmi and Jorge Amado, and appeared in the course of joint work on a play based on the novel Endless Lands. And then she was included in the series.

Caimmi lived a long life – 94 years. His creative path began back in the 1930s, and the singer-songwriter died already in the new century, in 2008, in Rio de Janeiro. The Soviet Union was overwhelmed by “lambadomania”. In our country, even a popular cartoon character performed the dance. A hare danced to the music of the Kaoma group in one of the episodes of the popular animated series Nu You Wait.

The world fame that came to the Kaoma group after Lambada turned out to be smacked of scandal. It turned out that “Lambada” is a cover of a Latin American song of the same time. The original was born a year earlier in Bolivia, a song called “Llorando se fué” performed by the group “Los Kjarkas”. The Franco-Brazilian team was accused of plagiarism. A lawsuit followed, as a result of which the group “got on the money”, but this did not diminish the popularity of the song, and Loalva Braz, along with the group, continued to perform it.

The life of the singer, whose voice gave the world “Lambada” ended tragically. She was killed in 2017 in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 63.

Concord Music Publishing has announced the signing of country singer-songwriter Russell Dickerson. The worldwide deal is effective immediately and includes Dickerson’s complete catalog and future works. 

A Tennessee native, Dickerson is the first artist to release four consecutive singles that reached number one on the Country Airplay chart since Luke Combs. After Combs, he is the second solo artist and fourth act overall, with four or more singles reaching number one on the Country Airplay chart since its inception. His breakthrough hit came in 2015 with his single “Yours,” now three-times Platinum certified.

“I’m excited to be joining the Concord family,” said Dickerson. “I love that they are an independent company with worldwide reach. They value songwriters, and today I’m humbled to be joining their roster of incredible talent.”

Dickerson followed up his impressive debut with three more Platinum hits, “Blue Tacoma,” “Every Little Thing,” and “Love You Like I Used To.” His two albums, Yours (2017) and Southern Symphony (2020), have achieved 2.2 billion streams across platforms, leading to tours with artists like Thomas Rhett, Lady A, and Kane Brown. Dickerson has earned a reputation as one of country music’s hottest new talents.

Users can now upload a short-form audio file–between 30 seconds and 15 minutes–via the ‘Create’ button. Tracks now reside under their own tab on the Mixcloud creator channel. They’re separate from any live streams or long-form audio content like podcasts. 

Mixcloud has music licenses in place and its monetization program pays 83% of revenue to rights holders and channel owners. Mixcloud could offer artists the ability to be paid directly for plays on individual tracks. These tracks must be completely original, though–they cannot be mashups, remixes, or bootleg edits.

The Mixcloud Tracks feature is currently in beta, and the team is seeking feedback. You can upload three tracks for free before you need a Mixcloud Pro subscription. The new feature seems aimed directly at SoundCloud, which has partnered with Twitch for its live-streaming offering. 

Mixcloud is pretty thorough in making sure people are only uploading music to which they own the rights. During the upload process, artists are asked to agree to the Terms of Use for each track they upload. This includes indicating whether the uploader is a member of a performing rights organization (PRO) or not. Mixcloud Pro users can choose when to publish a track and to whom it is visible–these settings are not available on the basic membership. 

Mixcloud CEO Nico Perez says the addition of Tracks makes the platform the only one that offers “live-streaming, long-form audio, and short-form tracks as well.” Most competitors like SoundCloud and Twitch specialize in one or the other. It will be interesting to see how royalties work for individual tracks on Mixcloud–since it has primarily catered to long-form content licensing in the past. 

DJ sets, radio shows, podcasts, and more long-form content on Mixcloud have a blanket-licensing model in place. This licensing model ensures royalties are paid for the music used in the long-form content–but licensing for short-form content is vastly different.

In terms of consumption and production, North America remains the world’s largest music market. However, with the shift to digital media and online communications, the opportunities for international artists and industry professionals to take export-ready entertainment to US audiences have greatly increased.

The US recorded market remains in a period of transition. According to IFPI figures, overall recorded sales grew by 2.1% in 2014 – with a decline in physical and digital track/album units being partially offset by consumer uptake for streaming services. Around 50% of North Americans are using paid and unpaid streaming services, while digital accounts for 71% of the recorded music market.

Along with the introduction of Spotify in 2011 and the rise of other subscription and advertiser supported services – such as Pandora, Rhapsody, iTunes Radio, YouTube, Beats Music, Google Play, Rdio, Muve Music and Slacker – international artists are finding new audiences in the US without necessarily leaving their home territories. In 2014, subscription income grew by 33.5% and ad-supported streaming by 21.4%. However, download revenue dropped by 7.2% /but still accounts for 55% of the US digital market.

2. Record Labels, Licensing & Distribution

Befitting its status as market leader, the US is home to headquarters of the three major record labels – based around the East Coast/West Coast axis of New York and Los Angeles, with all acting as umbrella to a host of individual and iconic imprints.

Universal Music and Sony Music dominate the market share of the domestic market (accounting for more than 50% of sales), however the independent sector remains healthy and responsible collectively for 34.6% of all recorded sales. The trade body for the independent sector is A2IM.

3. Publishing

The US publishing industry dominates the world- with New York and Los Angeles (alongside Nashville) as its epicentre and the collecting societies ASCAP and BMI each reporting revenues of over $900 million in 2012.

4. Performance Rights

The US sustains three collecting societies for the performance royalties of composers, authors and publishers. The largest of these are the performer-owned ASCAP – which represents more than 460,000 rights holders – and the broadcaster-owned  BMI. The third and smallest society – SESAC – was initially established to support underrepresented European stage authors and composers.

All mechanical rights are issued by The Harry Fox Agency.

The other key collective rights management organisation is SoundExchange – founded in 2003 to collect royalties on behalf of record labels and artists for non-interactive digital transmissions (including satellite and internet radio).
